What is cyber hygiene?

admin • 1 Aralık 2021

Cyber hygiene is a cyber security process that considers cyber risk as an attack process and enables detection of malicious software, malicious source, or network movement. Today, the two most important problems that organizations face in the field of cyber security are the correct protection of backup and disaster recovery data.

To ensure integrity

When the two basic components of cyber security, privacy, and accessibility, are handled with a holistic approach, a good start is made for cyber hygiene. For integrity, first of all, cryptographic algorithms should be used. A continuously variable level of protection is achieved with complex algorithms.

What is done in the cyber hygiene cycle?

Cyber hygiene is based on a cycle of repetition of the same security controls. It can be thought of as a kind of not leaving the square empty. We should follow cyber hygiene cases closely and learn lessons. Patching known vulnerabilities in cyber hygiene are the most important thing to do.

  • 1. Count
  • 2. Set
  • 3. Audit
  • 4. Patch
  • 5. Repeat

For basic cyber hygiene:

  • Scan inventory and find risks
  • Finding and establishing requirements to maintain inventory
  • Determining when cyber threats pass the firewall, tracking security updates
  • Availability of protective shields that will respond quickly to accidents
  • Developing a recovery system

Things to consider in the firewall necessary for cyber hygiene

  • Understand the attack surface or weak spots.
  • Improve vulnerabilities, patch, and configuration management
  • Develop backup and recovery mechanisms capable of retrieving information quickly.
  • Perform regular risk assessments.

Cyber hygiene, which is the whole of the activities that must be carried out in order to ensure and maintain the digital security of an organization or individual, not only for the information processing units but all levels of the company is responsible.

For cyber hygiene, anti-malware applications should be used and their up-to-dateness should be checked continuously. Creating strong passwords and changing them regularly is very important for cyber hygiene. Using multi-factor authentication mechanisms is also a necessary step. The operating system and software should be checked for updates, VPN services should be used to access the corporate network.

Cyber Hygiene is a cyber security term that is at least as important or even more important as privacy and accessibility.
